December 2013

What a difference a day and month can make.....

Undeterred from the awful weather back in August 2013, when we had to cancel the dog show due to persistent miserable wet and cold weather. We decided that surely we could not be that unlucky twice in one year and with all our fingers crossed went ahead with organising a “Christmas” themed sponsored walk and fun dog show.

We could not have asked for better weather – it was the bluest winter sky you had ever seen and the warmest sunniest afternoon, bringing out owners and their respective hounds. Some participating only in the walk and some just for a bit of fun, with most staying on to soak up the warm atmosphere.

In addition to the classes there was also some games, including “Name Our Dog”, “Number of Biscuits in the Jar”, “Lucky dip tombola”. Plus the delicious Christmas cakes, food and mulled wine. I, for one, went home with a large doggy bag full of scrummy faire!

Once the walkers returned, there was a short break for refreshments, followed by the “Christmas” themed dog classes enjoyed by adults and youngsters alike. This part of the event was judged by my French friend Maite, who at first was a bit mythed by the concept, who soon laughed along and entered into the spirit of the crazy classes.

Many thanks and huge appreciation goes out to the many volunteers who gave up their valuable time to help with the preparations before and on the day. Plus the supporters who generously attended and donated to the needy dogs and animals of the SPA and Phoenix Association. This event, along with the tombola stand at the Confolens market raised a massive 1000€.
Well done one and all!!!!
