Charity Fun Dog Show - Rain stopped play...

Sadly I have to report that we were unable to hold our annual charity dog show at Montrollet last Sunday due to the whole event and day being completely washed out by the persistent rain.

By the time we arrived at 11am, most of the stalls had already packed up and left.   After huddling under the outside café umbrella and gazebo and drinking copious amounts of coffee, we reluctantly decided to call it a day at 1pm as the rain and wind was just getting harder and harder.

Our first thanks should go to Moira and her team of volunteers, who I am sure, only stayed as long as they did because they did not want to abandon us whilst we waited and watched the skies in the hope for a break in the clouds and a glimpse of sun.

For those that did venture out and brave the weather, we thank you and appreciate your effort and support. Sorry you had a wasted journey.

I would also like to give a huge thank you to Anne and Sandra who, despite the rain spent the whole morning selling books on behalf of the respective charities. They managed to raise a massive 15€, Which I was surprised at given the atrocious weather and that I did not even see 15 people there!! One lady was very ill that day, but was determined not to let the doggies down.

charente kennelI would like to finish on a much happier note. I am very pleased to announce that we were able to award “The Masters' Trophy” for Tenacity & Spirit. It was presented to Klara Smart aged 13, who we thought deserved it for not only turning up on the day with two dogs in rain macs, mainly because Klara has attended every show since we started, entering most classes with her dog Squeak even though some times they did not win a sausage. Then earlier this year her old dog Squeak was attacked by another dog leaving her mentally and physically scarred. Unsure whether Squeak would be well enough, Klara spent her summer holidays training two dogs of friends in preparation, determined to enter again this year. I am pleased to announce that Squeak was able to come (she is the dog on the right). The presentation was made by Clive Masters.

Lastly, and most importantly we would like to extend our hugest gratitude to Jan & Carol (Scurry), Ange & Linda and friends (Tombola), Clive & Wendy (Entries & Judge), Anita & Colin (show ring and grounds). Without your loyal support and huge efforts beforehand and during the event, we could not have even considered holding this event.

Finally, our huge appreciation to our friends and all (too many to mention) that donated the fabulous prizes for the tombola. They will not go to waste, we promise!!
